This week's opening of the IB Art exhibition was a superb celebration of some very talented learners' work. Situated in the Level 2 Atrium, attendees were treated to wonderful walkthroughs of the works by the artists themselves, who really enjoyed explaining their inspirations and processes. Huge congratulations to the learners and to their fantastic teachers. The work remains in situ and we hope that you enjoy it as you enter the school. Please see more images and a report here.
Carrying on with the Arts theme, the brilliant cast and crew of Hairspray had a lovely party last week to celebrate a successful show. We cannot wait to see the documentary-style film which captured the whole process in lieu of a final production to an audience!
It has been an interesting week in terms of Covid-19 as travel has been vastly reduced across the world and social distancing has become a new part of our dictionaries. The shutting of the Malaysian road crossings has made Singapore feel like a slightly different place as we head towards the coming holidays. We continue to follow MOE and CPE guidelines around school operation in these challenging times and I am pleased to report a good atmosphere in school and lots of learning taking place.
As you know we are fully prepared if online learning has to take place off campus, but it has been wonderful to keep teaching everyone in a face-to-face setting. We continue to receive updates from Cambridge and International Baccalaureate that strongly indicate that IGCSE and IB exams will indeed take place in May of this year, as planned. We have already made lots of contingencies to enable these exams to happen in a safe environment, including splitting apart of different year groups into separate rooms, sanitising of rooms between exams and the ability to wear face masks, if desired. I am pleased to report that the last language oral exams and coursework pieces are nearly completed so we are all ready to go! IGCSEs and IB exams are very different to GCSEs and A Levels which the UK Government cancelled last week and you can keep up to date with their latest thinking here and here.
Everyone's spirits are high, even though it has been a long term. We will of course continue to update as and when necessary on the CoVid-19 situation.
Wishing you all a safe and happy weekend,
Peter
