As part of the International Schools IB Art Exhibition our NEXUS musicians were invited to perform at the opening event on Wednesday 30 November. The evening was a wonderful display of Art work from 15 International schools in the region. A big thank you to Nazneen Bhatia, Amy Su, Emily Wang and Oliver Jefferson who volunteered to serenade the attendee's and represent the NEXUS Music Department.
What a marvellous display of Musicianship as well as commitment, inspiration and enthusiasm by our Y11 IGCSE Musicians on Monday evening. A few months ago Nazneen, Felix, Callum, Natalie, Yana, Grace, Samantha and Sarah approached the music department enquiring about putting on a Charity Concert for the Children's Cancer Foundation. After some initial guidance they completely led the planning, marketing and implementation as well as the final execution of the event which raised nearly 500$ for Charity!
An eclectic mix of songs from Greenday to Dolly Parton; full band to soloists and duets our audience was thoroughly entertained. A huge congratulations to all involved on stage and behind the scenes. It is these moments that as a teacher we feel very proud. The intrinsic motivation, love for music and the want to simply bring joy to others through song. It is great to see many of our learners inspired by others and leading such events.
Year 8 learners had the opportunity to find out more about the charity Blue Dragon this week. As part of their Individuals and Societies unit exploring global inequalities and sustainable futures, learners heard first hand how Blue Dragon support the street children in Vietnam. It was inspiring to hear that Blue Dragon have pledged to eliminate child trafficking in Vietnam in the next 10 years. A very brave and inspiring goal to set.
Learners were curious about why trafficking happens? How can we make a difference? How can we help support the children overcoming the struggles ?
It was inspiring to hear from PK who herself has been supported by Blue Dragon and now volunteers with the charity, after having gained a scholarship to a University in Melbourne.
Look out for the Blue Dragon stall which will be at the Christmas fair and will be run by some of the Year 8 learners.
The Green Guardians are super excited to share the progress of the level 5 garden! We now have a variety of plants which are growing in the different beds, and you may be tasting some of them soon! Rosemary, chillies, okra, egg plant, sweet and thai basil, dill are a few of the plants that we have planted. We have also planted different salad seeds, so we are excited to see them grow over the coming weeks. Victus (the cafeteria) will be helping us to harvest, once the plants are ready and will be planning the menus to include them. All of this will help to significantly reduce our food miles, making us a more sustainable community.
Our first harvest has allowed us to create rosemary oil and Chilli oil which we will be selling at the Christmas fair to raise funds to keep our garden growing!
Look out for our stall at the Christmas Fair on 2nd December. Where you can buy our own Chilli and Rosemary infused olive oil for you to take home and cook with!
