What a marvellous display of Musicianship as well as commitment, inspiration and enthusiasm by our Y11 IGCSE Musicians on Monday evening. A few months ago Nazneen, Felix, Callum, Natalie, Yana, Grace, Samantha and Sarah approached the music department enquiring about putting on a Charity Concert for the Children's Cancer Foundation. After some initial guidance they completely led the planning, marketing and implementation as well as the final execution of the event which raised nearly 500$ for Charity!
An eclectic mix of songs from Greenday to Dolly Parton; full band to soloists and duets our audience was thoroughly entertained. A huge congratulations to all involved on stage and behind the scenes. It is these moments that as a teacher we feel very proud. The intrinsic motivation, love for music and the want to simply bring joy to others through song. It is great to see many of our learners inspired by others and leading such events.
Our wonderful Chamber Choir and soloists are performing at the New Zealand Chamber's Christmas Party 2022! We are very excited to be invited to represent our school and share our Christmas cheer with the New Zealand community next Wednesday 7 December.
As part of the International Schools IB Art Exhibition our NEXUS musicians were invited to perform at the opening event on Wednesday 30 November. The evening was a wonderful display of Art work from 15 International schools in the region. A big thank you to Nazneen Bhatia, Amy Su, Emily Wang and Oliver Jefferson who volunteered to serenade the attendee's and represent the NEXUS Music Department.
On the 30th of November 28 Learners from Y9 - 13 took a Music & Drama trip to the Sands Theatre to watch the production of The Sound of Music! This highly acclaimed original production tells the uplifting true story of Maria, the fun-loving governess who changed the lives of the widowed Captain von Trapp and his seven children by re-introducing them to music, and culminating the family's flight across the Austrian mountains as tensions rise prior to the outbreak of World War II. It was a wonderful evening where we were whisked away to the mountains of Austria and the angelic voices of the Nonberg Abby. Our Favourite was the mother superior whose operatic voice was seriously impressive while singing 'Climb every Mountain'. The seven Vonn Trapp children were played by local kids and they did a really well convincing us that they were from the same family.
