From our Head of Secondary

Dear Parents and Guardians

I hope you were all able to celebrate the Lunar New Year and enjoy some time as a family. It was wonderful to see all the celebrations running in our Languages learning spaces. Much has been happening, Year 8 has been out on Humanities trips exploring the impact of conflict, Year 9 has been performing modern day versions of Shakespeare in our tree house and Year 10 has been developing information literacy and writing strategies in the Learning Resource Hub. Please read more about these learning opportunities in our recent events pages.

It has been amazing to see the Nexus ScrapCap team win the Singapore Company of the Year in the Junior Achievement Awards. This is the second Nexus team in two consecutive years to win this prestigious award. The learners involved have shown dedication, commitment and determination. They have been meeting since last August and shown real tenacity in taking an idea, refining it and driving it forward into a real business with a tangible product. My thanks to Mr Jim and the mentors, Mr Jo Lombardo and Mr Mike Matthews, who have volunteered and given their time and support for several years and thank you to all of you who supported them by donating uniform or buying the caps.

The team have really embodied the Nexus RECIPE in their work -

They Respected each other's views and ideas as they established the idea for the company.

They worked for Excellence in their product and the competition.

They Communicated clearly and openly about their journey.

They acted with Integrity when taking and fulfilling orders.

They were Passionate about their product and their presentation for the judges.

They collaborated to make the process Enjoyable.

It has been terrific to see their hard work pay off and we wish them all the best as they prepare for the Asia Pacific round which Nexus learners won last year!

Innovation comes in many forms and is one of the things that sets Nexus apart from other schools. ScrapCap was an innovative idea that came from learners. Encourage your children to bring their ideas forward, we know many of them have huge learner leadership potential and love to support them in making things happen.

Wishing you all a happy and healthy year of the Ox.

Best wishes,

Dr Heather
