Nexus Beats Primary Bands
Well done to our amazing Year 6 learners who took to the stage in our Nexus Beats VIII concert on the 16th February. The two bands formed just a few weeks ago in preparation for this very moment of being able to perform to an audience consisting of our Nexus community, parents and learners. These bands, as well as our up-and-coming bands, will have many more performance opportunities in the next few months and continue with the wonderful art of music and performance at Nexus.
The Year 9 learners are well on their way to indentify a problem they have reserached either within the Nexus community, Singpaore or beyond! Once they have found an area they have an interest in, the groups will decide ways they can take action.
There are 4 ways that they can do this. Direct, Indirect, Advocacy and Research
Direct Service is service that directly affects people. This may include volunteering or cleaning up a park.
Indirect Service might take the form of fundraising or collections. It is they type of service in which you are not in the presence of the person or thing you are impacting.
Advocacy is when you speak up for or against an issue or solution. When we use our voices, we are being advocates.
Research involves finding out new information that informs or demands action. For example, collecting scientific data or surveying a group.
Our Year 2 learners popped in to the Year 9 planning session to tell them all about their trip to Sungei Buloh that morning where they had seen a giant lizard with rubbish around it. They are now planning what actions they are going to take!
Syria and Turkey Earthquake Community Bake
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the fundraising for the victims of the recent earthquake in Syria and Turkey. The amazing community support was incredible. The delicious donations of baked items and all those who bought in a few dollars to buy something helped to raise just over $2800 which is being donated to a charity who are supporting education for some of the children who have lost their families in the earthquake.
Thank you to the Year 12 and 13 Seoyeon, Arda and Calista learners for initiating the event and to all those who came and helped out on the day!

Team Nexus Edges into 3rd place in the Metasprint Duathlon
Sunday 19th February saw Team Nexus enter a strong group of athletes in the Metasprint Duathlon, which consisted of a run followed by a bike lap followed by another run. From Kindergarten learners taking part in the super-cute Scootathon, all the way through our amazing primary learners taking part in the kids race to our incredible secondary learners taking part in the youth race. Special congratulations go to the amazing risk takers who were taking part in their first ever multisport event. We had some great results, but more importantly everyone competed with huge smiles on their faces! Team Nexus made it onto the podium, coming 3rd overall in the School Challenge.
This Sunday 5th March sees the athletes putting all three disciplines together, competing in the Metasprint Triathlon. Please come and support us - the youth waves (ages 12-15) start from 8am, followed by the kids waves (ages 8-11) starting from 8:45am, and then the youngest athletes compete in the Super Scoot at 9:45am. These events have a great family atmosphere and your support will make the world of difference! The event is held at East Coast Park, close to car park E2.
