On Thursday, there was a Christmas event held in A1 pod where our youngest learners at Nexus invited their parents for a fun event: 'The Christmas Marketplace'. Along with Christmas arts and crafts activities, including decorating beautiful Christmas ornaments and gingerbread biscuits, our youngest learners also had a performance opportunity. They all joyfully sang Christmas carols for their parents and guardians. Everyone was very proud of our learners for singing beautifully and having shown lots of lovely actions to add to their performance. Here are the links which show a bit of what they pulled off.
In order to hear the voice of parents, learners and administration staff on how Nexus can develop as an inclusive international community, last week we held a afternoon consultation event to ask those present how they thought we could better fulfil our mission to be a truly Internationally Minded school. Some great ideas were put forward that wil be shared with the academic staff and developed into an Action Plan for 2018. Watch this space!
Last week, sixty-seven enthusiastic Year 5 learners spent the morning exploring the Singapore Science Centre. Our focus was to develop a deeper understanding of solids, liquids and gases, and to view a variety of different exhibitions to consider the ways scientific information is displayed and shared. Upon arrival, the learners spent the first hour and a half attending a lively ‘States of Matter’ presentation in the lecture hall. It was here that learners watched exciting experiments which included seeing the effect liquid nitrogen had on balloons filled with air and balloons filled with water. Following the presentation, they spent the final hour exploring the amazing interactive exhibits. It was a great way to tune the learners into thinking about how they would present their information and experiments at our upcoming Science Fair.
A huge thank you to all parents that contributed by donating prize/ auction items (or cash) to the teachers' appeal for Cambodian street children and orphans. The iFS sponsored event on 1 December was a huge success and we are delighted to announce that to date, we have raised $13,337. This wonderful sum will make a real difference to the lives of many children. We wish the 18 Nexus colleagues and their families the very best of luck for when they travel to Cambodia in February next year.
The teachers would like to take this opportunity to say a final thank you to our generous sponsors: iFS (International Financial Services), The Repair Hospital and Allied Pickfords - THANKS TO ALL!!
It should be noted that whilst everyone here at Nexus thinks that the teachers are doing an amazing thing, this event and appeal are being conducted independently, and not through Nexus International School (Singapore).
