Last week the whole school celebrated Diversity Week through an appropriately diverse range of events and activities... Mother Tongue storytelling, Kenyan tribal moving, Polonez Polish dancing, cooking Canadian pancakes, a UN Day Assembly, designing our handprint mural, creating Sushi, sharing traditional toys, games and artefacts...
"The best school day ever!" was the way one group of Year 3 learners described their Cultural Fair held on Wednesday afternoon. The afternoon consisted of workshops of cultural activities run by parent volunteers and staff. Building on the success of Diversity Week, the learners explored various cultures as provocations to their Unit of Inquiry into how cultures are expressed through the arts.
The Year 2 learners had an eye-opening introduction to their new Unit of Inquiry exploring light with a visit to the ArtScience Museum. The children were in awe when they found themselves immersed in some of the light exhibits. They saw their own artwork take on a life of its own and learned how light can create a calming influence in 'The Sanctuary'. We are sure that the learners will be taking inspiration from this trip when they come to presenting their own Mini Exhibition at the end of this term!
