Thank you to all our learners and families for taking part so enthusiastically with our Earth Week challenges. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the amazing action the learners took through the week. Actions included planting seedlings for our sustainable garden; researching the impact of human activity on the habitats of our favourite animal teddies and taking the class Power Pledge (in just one day we saved the equivalent of the power needed to charge 4,311 ipads!)
A massive congratulations to our Nursery, Kindergarten and Year 1 - 6 learners who were fully involved in their Primary Inter-house Track and Field. The level of enthusiasm and support for each other has been heart-warming to see and showed that despite being separated during lockdown last year, our learners' house spirit and teamwork is as amazing as ever.
In the sports halls, on the track and on the field, the learners challenged themselves to show their best running, jumping and throwing on the day. It was fantastic to hear the school full of cheering and music, while learners supported their classmates to achieve their best.
Alongside the athletics style stations, which included beanbag overarm throws, low hurdles and underarm throws for Nursery to Year 2, Nursery and Kindergarten enjoyed some parachute popcorn. Year 1 and 2 showed their developing balance and coordinations skill with an egg and spoon race using a bat and beanbag for Year 1 and moving to over-sized spoons and large eggs for Year 2. Year 2 showed excellent self-management skills at the re-run of their Inter-house Track and Field and we were ably supported by 6W learners who helped to score and organise equipment, whilst supporting our young athletes . A big thank you to 6W, 4R and 6G who helped at the various Inter-house Track & Field days.
For our Year 3-6 learners, we enjoyed seeing some excellent competitive and house spirit at all year levels with the learners participating in a range of activities including middle distance and sprint races, long jump and basketball push or shot put. Year 3-4 learners showed some excellent pacing and race strategy in their 600m runs and lovely foam javelin and long jump technique. Year 5 and 6 started this week with their delayed Inter-house Track and Field and were soon in good house spirits, supporting their team-mates and showing some excellent overarm throws and enjoying fun stations like the sack race. Thank you to Mr Moriarty’s Year 10 IGCSE learners who helped support the event.
Finals for both the 60m sprints and the 600m were organised to allow our faster runners to challenge themselves against the best in their year. There were some beautifully run races in the 600m and both the 60m and 600m finals had some very close finishes. Congratulations to all the runners who made it to our 60m and 600m finals, an excellent achievement and to those runners who made the Top 3 in some closely contested races.
A huge thanks also goes to all our class teachers and classroom assistants for their support and enthusiasm at the Inter-house Track and Field and to the HPE & Aquatics staff for their never-ending energy to help run and set up for the FIVE Inter-house Track and Field events, plus those delayed by rain or lightning alarms!
