At the start of the school to now imagine that no woodwind, brass or vocalists were allowed to perform under Covid situation to now being able to expose our young learners to these instruments. Our beginner recorder and flute has been a huge hit.

With limited numbers of 12 budding wannabe musicians are getting the opportunity to learn the recorder and flute, under guidelines of only taking masks off to play, sanitising instruments and social distancing we have already learnt a few notes and can play simple songs, 8 players at a time.

Mr Fabian our resident woodwind teacher has been assisting the learners with playing using the correct embourchure and playing using the right keys. We have had lots of fun and are about to embark on learning a piece together as an ensemble where everyone will play a slightly different part of the music.

At Nexus many of our learners play an instrument and participate in the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) or the Trinity College Music Exams (Classical or Rock and Pop). These don't just offer a platform to perform or an incentive to practise, they provide structure of learning and enhance instrumental and performance skills.

We understand many of our learners take these examinations whether they learn an instrument as part of the Nexus Instrumental Programme or privately outside of school. We would like to start sharing successes and welcome learners and parents to email us when results are received so we can share with our wider community.
