On Friday, 19 February we will be hosting the Grand Opening of the Nexus Tree House.
As part of the design stage of this campus, learners were invited to share they ideas for a safe, fun and healthy playspace. A treehouse was one of their suggestions and it is fantastic that we were able to build that suggestion into our school. The Nexus Treehouse is a wonderful 3-storey play space for our younger learners in Nursery to Year 2, which includes a 'roof-top' open place space, a large shaded reading mezzanine level and slide.
This week some of our Secondary School learners have been using the space as a wonderful al fresco drama and, as it is ‘in the round’, naturally evokes Shakespeare’s Globe theatre. It was perfect to set scenes from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
All Year 1 and Year 2 learners will be celebrating the Grand Opening with a range of activities throughout the day. On that day all learners will be provided with a special picnic lunch so they DO NOT need to bring any lunch. Children will still need to bring a healthy morning snack. We ask that learners wear their full school uniform for the day and also bring with them a their HPE shorts and HPE t-shirt in case a change of clothes is required.
Due to social distancing measures, our Chinese New Year celebrations will be spread over more days this year.
On Tuesday and Wednesday next week all the Primary learners will have the opportunity to take part in a range of traditional Chinese activities, including calligraphy, Chinese drumming, handkerchief spinning and hand painting.
The following week on Friday, 19 February the Chinese Dragon will dance through the Learning Hubs.
Our learners are invited to dress up in traditional Chinese dress on one of the days next week. Please see the list below to see which day the learners are dressing up.
