Dear Parents and Guardians,

This is an introduction to the Year 6 ‘Transition to Secondary’ Days on the Thursday and Friday of that week. This will be held on the top field at Nexus International School (Singapore). The focus of the morning will be on participation in a team building environment enabling relationships to be formed between Year 6 and 7 learners from each house.
Please ensure your child brings the following items to school on the day:
Graeme Massey
Learning Area Leader, Health and Physical Education
On Thursday, 6 and Friday, 7 June all Year 6 learners are invited to the Nexus International School Transition days. During these two days the learners will experience what it is like to be in Year 7 at Nexus. Please wear normal school uniform. An outline of the day is below:
Have fun in your first day of Secondary School!
On Tuesday, the Kindergarten learners will travel to Clementi market to buy bananas in preparation for our trip on Thursday to hunt for our cheeky monkey, Scklarkey. The learners are all very excited for our cruise along the Singapore River, in the hope that we can entice our wandering monkey back to Nexus with his favourite treat.
On Friday,7 June from 9.30-11.30am our Nursery learners will be making another visit to the Orange Valley Care Home. Our learners will continue to develop their understanding of the needs of others and how we can help them and have an opportunity to take action in our local community. This visit from our young learners really does brighten the day for the elderly residents of Orange Valley.
On Thursday, 13 June, Year 5 learners will celebrate the end of their unit inquiring into Space Exploration by viewing the amazing 'Space Next' at Singapore's Omni Theatre. This will help us see what the future of Space exploration will look like. Will there ever be a colony of humans living on Mars?
We will also be giving our learners the opportunity to further explore the science experiments, kinetic garden and water learning garden as a fun end to a wonderful year of learning together.
On Thursday, 13 June, at lunchtime some of our Secondary learners and Nexus staff will be raising money in aid of the Children's Cancer Foundation.
Hair for Hope is the only head-shaving event in Singapore that serves to raise funds and awareness of childhood cancer. It is run by The Children's Cancer Foundation, and they aim to encourage at least 6,000 participants to join their cause and raise $3.6 million to aid children and families impacted by cancer this year.
The Nexus satellite event is being organised by some of our Year 10 Nexus learners, Hugo Khaou, Seth Klinzing and Taiga Tanaka, with the help of Mr Fordham, who want to make a Bald Statement in support of their peer and good friend, Joseph Loy (Year 10) who is currently undergoing chemotherapy in a hospital in Malaysia.
We are looking for:
1. People who are willing to sponsor the participants, and/or
2. Go the whole way/take the risk and offer to have their head shaved for a great cause*
* This is open to anyone Year 6 and above. If you would or your child would like to sponsor the participants or take part please spend a moment to fill in this form to register your interest.
All learners will need to have their Parent/guardian sign THIS consent form before the event, allowing them to take part. Please download this consent form and return to Student Services by Friday, 7 June.
Many thanks for your support.
Hugo, Seth, Taiga and Mr Fordham
