At Nexus, each term we designate a day as Bug Busting Day. The day serves as a reminder and encouragement for all learners, parents and guardians to follow the weekly bug busting guidelines.
During assembly, our fantastic school nurses held a short session with all the Primary learners from Kindergarten to Year 6 to remind them of measures they can take to keep their head free of head lice.
This year, the nurses also launched an exciting logo design contest for all the learners, in search of a brand new creepy crawly, Bug Busting Day logo!
The learners will all be given the chance to vote for their favourite logo on Bug Busting Day in Term 2. The entry with the most number of votes will be our new mascot! All entries for the contest need to be in by Friday, 9 October.
If your child would like to participate, the link for submission can be found here. Please find the logo contest submission criteria below.
Criteria
- Save each of the entries under a file name using your child's full name followed by the respective class, for example: Hui Yi Chng_3B.
- Ensure to save files in JPEG format.
- The logo may be hand drawn or a computer illustration. (If hand drawn, please safekeep the original hardcopies.)
- Each learner is allowed to submit multiple entries.
- Entries may choose to illustrate the message of: "Taking time to perform regular hair checks' or "Tackling the spread of head lice".
Most importantly, we hope all learners have fun in the process! Please do not hesitate to contact us if you encounter any technical issues with the submissions or have any questions, thank you!
· On identification of head lice at home, please give treatment to your child and ensure all live lice are removed.
· Children may return to school when they are free of live lice. Please inform the school of head lice infestation on your child.
· If a learner is in school at the time of identification of live head lice, parents will be contacted to collect the child and administer treatment before returning to school.
· On returning to school after head lice infestation, please ensure the School Nurse checks your child before entering class.
A reminder that next Friday, 9 October is the last day of Term 1. School finishes at the usual time (3.20pm for Years 1 to 6 and 3.15pm for Nursery and Kindergarten).
We will then have a two week school break. School reopens on Monday, 26 October.
Please note that we have two school closure days in Term 2. These are:
Thursday, 12 November - Staff Professional Learning Day
Friday, 13 November - Deepavali Holiday
Other important dates for Term 2 are:
Wednesday, 11 November - Deepavali School Celebrations (learners encouraged to wear traditional Indian or Hindu dress)
Friday, 13 November - ACSIS Season 1 conclude
Friday, 20 November - Season 1 CCAs conclude
Friday, 18 December - Last day of Semester 1 (school closes at noon)
We enjoy celebrating children's birthdays at school. Many families like to bring in gifts or a sweet treat for the learners in the class. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions placed on us, we cannot allow families to bring in treats to share.
As an alternative, families can purchase cupcakes from Victus, our in-school catering team. These are made on-site following the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) standards and delivered directly to class. If you would like to consider this option, please contact the Victus team. Their details are on the Parent Zone of our website.
