The Lion's Pride Event - 'Dress Up as a Merlion' Day was a huge success. I am thrilled to announce that our Nexus community has raised well over $3,500 in support of the President's Challenge!
Our learners have chosen to send this money to Food Bank Singapore, one of the selected beneficiaries under the President's Challenge. Food Bank aims to help those in need to access affordable and nutritious food. For some in Singapore, it can be challenging to make ends meet, especially their most basic needs like food and shelter.
We are so thankful of our community who gave so generously and to our learners that have shown such compassion to others in the place they call home. Our very own giant merlion has been making a tour of the learning hubs and over the next few weeks, all the Primary learners will have the opportunity to add their flourish to our wall mural. Even though the sale of merlions has concluded today, we hope that families who have purchased the merlions will have a great time painting in your bubbles! It is a great opportunity to kick off some Merlion Painting Coffee Mornings with a small gathering of friends.
My thanks also, to members of our Jewish community who joined us online in our assemblies today. The learners from across Primary School were so keen to discover more about the celebrations and the meanings behind some of the traditions. We even had the opportunity for all of us to share some tasty honey bread as a symbol of a sweet year ahead.
This was a wonderful example of how we strengthen our understanding of International Mindedness, which at Nexus we define as:
Next week is the time that we show our commitment to the United Nations Global Goals. Take a look at 'Upcoming Events' to find out more about what is happening. On Friday, our focus will be on 'Quality Education' and we are encouraging all learners to take part in the 'When I Grow Up' dress up day.
In the previous newsletters we have introduced our homeroom teaching teams and shared how our curriculum is designed and what makes learning different at Nexus. This week the focus is on the Approaches to Learning. Take a look at that page to find out more.
The appointment booking system for the Primary School Parent Teacher Conferences next week is now closed. If you forgot to book your appointment, please contact Learner Services for help booking an appointment. If you are coming on to campus, please remember to bring your pass with you to speed up your entry into school.
May I take this opportunity to wish our Jewish families Shanah Tovah Umetukah. To the rest of the community, enjoy your weekend. We look forward to seeing all of you online or on campus next week at our Primary School Learning Conferences.
With warm regards,
Paul
Head of Primary School
