We are excited to announce our first whole community event of the 2020-21 Academic Year! This project is very close to our heart, it embraces Singapore’s iconic merlion - a celebration of our home in the little red dot. Through art, we aim to unite, build friendships and raise money for those less fortunate than us.
Here are the events happening in Primary & how we can ALL contribute (more details regarding activities for our Secondary learners can be found in the Secondary newsletter):
Nursery to Year 6
Friday 11 Sept - Dress up as a Merlion or your own Singapore Story for $3
Monday 14 Sept - Our Primary children will be painting a beautiful wall mural that will be outside the lifts on level 2. If you look closely, you will see our beautiful campus joining the iconic Singapore skyline.
CCA
Paint your own merlion for $25. Children will design and paint their own 20cm merlion in Semester 1 of their CCA. Learners may take their artwork home, the merlions make wonderful gifts.
Parents
From 14 Sept -'Merlion Parties'
We would love you to get involved and host your own ‘Merlion Party’. We hope this will be a wonderful opportunity to connect with parents through your WhatsApp groups and get to know each other whilst painting your own 20cm merlion or mindful colouring for your own donation. To purchase your 20cm merlion we will host a pop-up store which will run 14 - 18 September.
16 November - Art Exhibition (restrictions permitting)
A beautiful exhibition of your children's work and the unveiling of our giant merlion. If you are an artist and would like to exhibit, please email marketing@nexus.edu.sg.
This event is in partnership with Lion's Pride and Crayola. All funds raised will go to the President’s Challenge.
The President’s Challenge represents the coming together of people from all walks of life to help the less fortunate. In 2012, it was expanded to go beyond fundraising by including volunteerism and social entrepreneurship. Partnerships with registered charities within the President’s Challenge help our learners foster relationships with these organisations and build their caring and enterprising spirit.

We truly hope you will embrace this activity, connect through art and raise money to those who need our help.
Our Parent Teacher Conferences for all Primary Year Groups will take place on the evenings of Monday, 21 September and Wednesday, 23 September.
We believe that building a strong home-school partnership is essential and these conferences are an important way for you to share with us how your child has settled into the 2020/21 academic year and what we can focus on together over the next few months of your child's learning jounrey. The sessions will be an opportunity for you to meet your child's Homeroom Teacher. For our Bilingual Multilingual Learners (BML) your child's English teacher will also join the conversation.
Sessions will run from 3.45pm to 7.30pm. Next week the Parent Portal will open to make a booking. We will notify you via email. Please log on to the Parent Portal to book your 15 minute appointment with your child’s Homeroom Teacher for the evening you would like to attend. Bookings will close at noon on Friday, 18 September.
Parents will have a choice of whether they have an online appointment (via Google Meet) or a face to face meeting in school. Meetings will be arranged as follows:
All sessions that start at 3.45pm to 5.15pm will be online
All sessions that start at 5.45pm and onwards will be face to face
Due to current restrictions placed on us, when the face to face sessions take place the campus will need to be a child-free zone. Therefore, we must insist that NO CHILDREN attend these appointments.
Our specialist teachers for Health and Physical Education (HPE), Visual Arts, Music and Languages other than English (LOTE) will be available via open online meets on both evenings to answer any general questions you have about these parts of our curriculum.
