As some of you may know, we usually consider the last month of the school year as our 'Giving Month'. It is when we share a number of learner-led projects and ask that our community consider offering their support.
The recent Primary Swimathon is one such event, and news of the success and what we have helped achieve can be seen in the Recent Events section. We would also like to highlight two other extremely worthwhile causes that began through learner-led action a number of years ago and we have continued to support each year.
The first is Hair for Hope, a local Children's Cancer Charity. Learners, staff and parents have been shaving their heads and raising money to support children and families affected by cancer. This year's event is particularly poignant as we remember Joseph Loy, one of our much-loved learners who sadly passed away from cancer recently. Please take a look at the Upcoming Events section to see how you can get involved or make a donation.
The second event is when we all start limbering up in preparation for our annual Climbathon to support the communities in Nepal. Our previous events have supported Chora Chori in their development of education for underprivileged children as well as the building of a refuge offering young people a brighter future. In response to the success of these projects the charity has adopted a new focus and also a new name ‘Pipal Tree’. You can hear more about this from Philip Holmes in this short video or by visiting their website.
So, let’s start setting our climbing goals and gathering sponsorship support for the Climbathon which will take place in the final week of term. Our final community event of the year!
Get those climbing shoes ready and look out for more information to follow!
Finally, my thanks to all our parents and learners for their support during this challenging time. The feedback from parents and learners for our Off-Campus Learning has been overwhelmingly positive.
We know that in these difficult times, schools may choose the easy option of didactic teaching and online worksheets to keep children 'busy'. However, we know that this model is not successful for learning, whether in school or at home. Through our Off-Campus Learning progamme we will continue to strive for a model that challenges our children, develops their inquiry skills and moves their learning forward.
I recognise that this does create more challenge for my team as well as for families, and I sincerely thank you all for engaging in such a positive way.
As mentioned in Judy's emails, please be assured that if government advice allows, our intention is to have learners back on campus in some capacity (even if just for a couple of days) in the last week of the school year.
Best regards.
Paul.
Hello again.
I hope everyone’s off-campus learning has been going well and you have been keeping yourselves safe. On Tuesday, 1 June I will be online during the usual Parent Workshop time (09:00 - 10:00) for a ‘Meet the new Head of School’ session.
I’d love to see you there, if you'd like to come along please register yourself on this link Parent Workshops, and add any questions you’d like to hear my thoughts on.
We don’t know yet who will be on campus on Thursday, 10 June, but we do know that we want to be able to farewell Mr Beach. As you already know one of Mr Beach’s favourite things to do is dress up! So on Thursday, 10 June, we are going to ask the learners to dress up whether we are at home or in school. The learners can dress up as anything they want but the brighter the better, rainbows and unicorns are some of Mr Beach’s favourite things! I look forward to seeing what interesting, fun, sparkly costumes you can think of.
Warm regards
Fiona.
