Our Aquathlon team had a great morning at the Lions Aquathlon Interschool Championships today held in East Coast Park earlier this month.
19 learners from Year 3 to Year 11 took part in the various races and Nexus were by far the best represented school. We also had some great results, both individually and as a team, and there was great Nexus team spirit with learners of all different ages cheering each other on.
Our 7-9 boys Arthur, Tim and Ben took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in their age group and as a team we brought home two trophies:
Inter-School Championship Under 13 Overall Champions
and
Inter-school Championship Under 13 Male Champions!
Our learners from Nursery through Year 9 made a splash at Nexus SwimFest 2023!
By taking part in various fun games like kayak treasure hunts, water volleyball and races on unicorn floats, our learners showcased what they have learnt from their swimming lessons.
A big thank you to parents and guardians for coming down to support our learners and showcasing your house spirit!
We hope everyone had fun and we can’t wait for next year’s SwimFest!
Singapore International Schools PD Collaborative Leadership
As a community-focussed school, Nexus is delighted to be an active participator in the Singapore International Schools Professional Development Collaborative. One of the programmes the collaborative organises on an annual basis is a 9-month programme for aspiring leaders. This year ninety-two teachers across Singapore participated including ten Nexus staff. Nexus volunteered to host the latest face-to-face workshops which took place on the 8th, 9th and 10th May. Prominent speakers on leadership Greg and Chris Jansen flew in from New Zealand to lead the workshops, in addition Greg engaged in some work on restorative practice and behaviour with the wider community of Nexus teachers. Everybody was very complimentary about their Nexus experience and it provided a wonderful networking opportunity for our staff.
This event isn't the only event we have hosted at Nexus recently. We invited prominent speaker on Service Learning Cathy Berger Kaye to Nexus for a conference that involved almost 50 staff including participants from our Singapore international school network. Later, expert speaker on IB ATLs (Approaches to Learning) Lance King led a workshop for our teachers as well as those from the community. Finally, next week we will host a 5-day TeamTeach conference that will train teachers to train other teachers in relation to behaviour management techniques. We look forward to further networking and professional learning events in the future as part of our community commitment.
