On Wednesday September 4th, our Nexus Primary Choir and Nexus Secondary Chamber Choir absolutely wowed the audiences at beautiful and historic venue of Chijmes in Singapore. We participated in the 'Voices of Singapore' Festival which showcased primary and high school choirs from all over the Island. Our choirs sang a wide variety of songs including 'Kokoleoko', 'Hand in Hand', Adiemus' and 'Never Enough' and were very enthusiastically supported by the audience. Both choirs also participated in Vocal Workshops with renowned international choral clinicians. Our Primary choir worked with Susanna Saw (Malaysia) while our Secondary Chamber Choir workshopped with Sanders Lau (Hong Kong). Both choirs were praised for the high standards that they demonstrated in their performances and by the workshop leaders. After the performance in Chijmes we then collaborated with Presbyterian High School (Singapore) where we learned some new choral songs and games from them and we also showed them some of our favourite choral warm ups and exercises. This was a really brilliant experience where the Choir singers from Nexus were able to experience performing in a stunning venue and share these experiences with choir singers from other schools.
Miss Hughes, our Deputy Head of the secondary school has kicked off our assemblies this year with a truly interactive experience for our learners! Across our 7-9 and 10-13 assemblies, four very brave learners came on stage to bake the annual 'Nexus RECIPE cake'. This assembly brings the Taylor's core RECIPE to life to highlight how important it is to our culture and daily interactions at the school.
A huge thank you to Henry Griffiths (8.1), Kajtek Bill (8.0), Molli Moss (12.0) and Lukas Taylor (12.5) who took on the challenge of communicating a recipe to each other with one learner blindfolded and one learner only able to use their voice!
Throughout the year we have a range of assemblies celebrating learner success, our Care.Movement (Care For Self, Care For Others, Care For The World), as well as key themes around laws in Singapore, friendships/relationships, and cultural celebrations. Many of these are learner led assemblies and we cannot wait to see what the learners come up with!
Excitement is building as rehearsals for Legally Blonde: The Musical are in full swing! Our cast and staff have been working tirelessly, and we are incredibly proud of the dedication and energy everyone is bringing to this production. The show is already shaping up to be of exceptional quality, and we can’t wait for the community to see the final result.
Adding to the excitement, we are thrilled to announce that Nikki Snelson, a member of the original Broadway cast, will be joining us next week! Nikki played the role of Brooke in the U.S. production of Legally Blonde, and we are honored to have her fly in from Los Angeles to work with our talented students. For ten days, Nikki will be focusing on the choreography and, in her own words, “whipping our learners into shape” for the big show.
With such incredible guidance and the hard work of our performers, we know this production is going to be something truly special. Be sure to mark your calendars—you won’t want to miss it!
We are excited to announce that the UK-based theatre company The Paper Birds will be returning to Nexus on the 12th of September to conduct personalised workshops for our IGCSE and IBDP Theatre learners. Known for their unique style of devising theatre, The Paper Birds are an award-winning company that uses verbatim material and multimedia elements to explore social and political themes.
This is the second time we’ve had the privilege of hosting The Paper Birds at Nexus, highlighting the school’s commitment to providing students with exceptional opportunities to engage with professional artists. These workshops will offer our learners hands-on experience in creating thought-provoking, original theatre under the guidance of industry professionals.
We are thrilled to welcome them back and look forward to seeing the impact this collaboration will have on our students’ creative development!
