Hello! I’d like to take a brief moment to welcome all new parents and all returning families to Nexus and the Nexus Parent Group. Please take a moment to read some exciting updates, and hopefully I will see you Tuesday morning in the NPG Room.
One of our School’s unique pillars is what many parents and staff describe as a special community spirit.
The NPG serves two purposes within this community:
- to provide parents with a platform through which to start conversations with, and provide feedback, to the School
– to be “a voice of the School community”, and to provide a range of great social, cultural and special interest events.
We welcome all volunteers to join our vibrant and diverse committee, with the main aim of maintaining an inclusive NPG where all ideas are considered valuable.
Without the active and generous participation of our parent volunteers, the Nexus family would not be the strong, thriving, and supportive community that it is! The NPG exco remains on the look-out for parents (all parents are automatically Members of the NPG) to assist in school life and activities. We all have differing amounts of time that we can commit to and add to the vibrancy of the School community, so whether you can donate a lot or a little of your time to the School community and the NPG Committee, we welcome you. We also need class reps to liaise between the school and the parents. Please let us know if you are interested.
Please drop me a line at npg@nexus.edu.sg.
Please approach any of the team in the NPG Room at any time to discuss and volunteer your assistance and please keep an eye on our re-vamped Facebook page – Nexus Parents Group.
We are hosting our first NPG get-together for coffee and to discuss more about Nexus and the NPG on Tuesday morning, 21 August 2018, 8:45am, in the NPG Room. All new parents that came to the School's first day coffee morning are encouraged to come on Tuesday. Mums and dads can offer as little time or as much time as they can to assist in taking our School community to even great heights.
I’m delighted to announce the appointment of Reinet Doig as Acting Vice President. Reinet also handles all of our social media and communications. My sincerest and heartfelt thanks goes out to the wonderful Ms Suzannah Raaff for taking on the role of Vice President between September 2017 and July 2018. Suzannah was invaluable in taking the lead and injecting her energy and passion into a number of major and successful events at the end of the calendar year 2017 and the School year in June. Thank you Suzannah!
Ms Sandra van Oord didn’t hesitate to step up when needed, to be a lead swim parent a few months ago. As always under the parental guidance of Sandra, our swimmers had another great year. With growing work and family-related commitments of her own, Sandra feels that she cannot offer the time needed to be a lead swim parent. And so, we need a new passionate mum or dad to support our fantastic swimmers. For those interested please email npg@nexus.edu.sg
A must for all concerned parents. On the first morning of School this week, the Year 6 learners were spoken to about cyber-awareness, cyber-bullying, and cyber security. As our children grow, this become an increasingly important matter. The NPG is hosting an event on Cyber-Awareness on Thursday, 23 August at 8:30am in the NPG Room. Warmest wishes,
Simon Hyett
