Our newly formed Learner Council met for the first time this week. Following introductions, we ran a generative meeting sharing the ideas they have to push Nexus forward for all of our stakeholders. The brainstorming session led to four key foci for the school: Events, Academics, Wellbeing & The Curriculum. Each focus will have members of the Council attached to them as they promote learner voice and agency across the school.
We will welcome Mr. MacKinnon next week to analyse the learner survey that went out last year - this will help us to further focus our plans going forward. We will also hear presentations from each of the presidential candidates and vote for this year's Learner Council President.

As a parent we know it can be challenging to know where to find information.
The Parent Zone on the Nexus website hosts lots of useful information including curriculum booklets that explain the curriculum and assessment for each year. Our policies and Parent Learner handbooks can also be accessed here.
The Engage parent portal is where you can find your child's
Timetable
Daybook recognitions and concerns throughout their learning journey
Academic reports
Finance Information
You can also book appointments for learning conferences to meet your child's teachers in Engage.
You need to be registered as a user to access Engage and should have received an email from learner services to log into your account.
Canvas is our learning management system where learners can see the topics they are learning. Teachers set home learning and assignments on Canvas and learners can upload their work (usually as PDF files) for teachers to annotate and feedback on.
Your login credentials should have been sent to you by email. If you cannot find these, please contact our IT department.
There is a parent app for Canvas however we strongly recommend you use the desktop log in as you can only see a fraction of what is available on the app.
We know as a school that we have more to do on improving what is visible to you as parents and improving consistency across Canvas. Please rest assured we are working on this both in school and with the developers. It was never our intention to cause tension at home with some of the complete and incomplete settings.
The best way to understand the platform is to ask your child to show you what they can see and how they are using Canvas to support learning.
Please make sure you check the examination schedules before booking travel. The IBDP examination schedule is already published for May 2024. The IGCSE schedule should be confirmed in January.
Please note external examinations may fall on public holidays or run in the evening and the school has no control over these dates. External examination dates cannot be rearranged by the school.
Internal trial examinations for Year 13 and Year 11 run between January 8th to January 19th.
Internal trial examinations for Year 12 run between 4th and 11th March.
Internal trial examinations for Year 10 run between 2nd and 12th April.
Our Deputy Head, Miss Stephanie received a beautiful handmade picture from Hair For Hope in appreciation of our support of the event in June 2023. The plaque reads 'Hope is like stars and it shines bright in the night sky'. The artwork was lovingly painted by En Qi, a beneficiary of the Children's Cancer Foundation (CCF).
Thank you to all the learners and families who got involved in this event last academic year. We will be 'making a bold statement' again in June 2024.
