Thank you to all those who took part in the Climbathon. It was another great Nexus event which truly demonstrated the learners team work and determination as well as their care for communities who need our support.
Learners from Nursery to Year 10 rose to the challenge, completing a combined effort of at least 450km on the routes around the school. The support of our Year 12 learners leading the way and helping some of our younger learners complete their route was great to see.
All sponsorship money will go towards our ongoing support for the charity Pipal Tree in Nepal. Projects we support include the reforestation of barren land, providing employment and environmental benefits to rural communities. The charity also work to support the education of women and children through schooling and social enterprise training. We will be receiving updates in the coming months from the CEO of Pipal Tree on how any funds raised have been used.
If you have not yet passed on any money raised please bring it into school and pass it to your tutor/ homeroom teacher or make the donation via the pay now QR code.
A little goes a long way to helping others. Thank you for all your ongoing support.
As part of our Care for World Week, we also went dotty for climate action and celebrated International Dot Day.
Thank you to the N - Y2 and art teams for embracing Dot Day so significantly, and sharing it with the rest of the school.
Please take a moment to admire the Make Your Mark display in the L2 Atrium, with dots from many, many learners.
As part of 'Care for the World' Week our Year 12 learners spent the morning on East Coast supporting the community by removing litter from the beaches. Numerous rubbish bags had been filled after only a couple of hours! The learners were quite shocked to see what had washed up on the beaches including abandoned picnic mats, shoes, yoga mats and plastic toys. The experience has prompted learners to take further action by initiating their own beach clean ups as part of their CAS programme.
In groups, the Yr 12 learners then went on to explore the creativity and culture in our local area through a photography challenge. Part of the challenge focused on our learning in Theory of Knowledge. It has been interesting to hear the different perspectives and see the photos taken in our TOK lessons this week where learners have shared the relationship between knowledge and culture in relation to their photographs.
On our return to school, it was very fitting to hear from OrcaNation about the action they are taking to help raise awareness about the ocean pollution in our region and how we can all do our part to help make a difference.
Well done to the Year 12 learners on leading the way and helping to raise awareness about how we can all contribute to making a difference.
Some of our learner council members had the opportunity to go on a Nexus kitchen tour with Chartwells recently. They got to learn more about our caterer's processes and see some really interesting features of a proper commercial kitchen. We hope that this was an eye-opening experience for our learners as they got first-hand experience with the food industry.
The school's cross-country event was a memorable occasion, and we were fortunate to complete it between the showers. The boundless energy radiating from the young athletes as they tackled the course with enthusiasm and determination was truly inspiring, and their vibrant house colours added to the spectacle. The house spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie among the learners was a testament to their dedication and collaboration. Furthermore, the support from parents and spectators within the school community added an extra layer of excitement to the event, making it a memorable experience for all involved.
