Today is Bug Busting Day
Nurse Esther has visited all our primary learners K - Y6 to explain how to detect and get rid of head lice.
Please may we ask you to carry out the Bug-Busting Method outlined below over the weekend. A combined and coordinated approach is our best defence against head lice.
The Bug-Busting Method is a systematic approach to the eradication of head lice ('Bug-Busting' method is strongly encouraged to be undertaken on each child on a weekly basis as part of the normal personal hygiene routine).
Here are the simple steps for you to do at home:
Wash hair and rinse as normal. Apply a good quantity of hair conditioner to wet hair, ensuring coverage from root to tip.
Comb the hair with a normal comb to untangle hair strands.
Part hair in small sections to check for live lice and eggs. If head lice are detected proceed to step 4. If head lice are not detected, rinse hair and dry as normal. Repeat ‘Bug-Busting’ method in 7 days.
With conditioner in place, comb through hair methodically with head lice comb, held at approximately 45 degrees angle to head. Ensure the teeth of the comb touch the scalp. Wipe comb after every stroke.
Rinse hair and dry as normal.
Repeat procedure every fourth day for 2 weeks, to ensure eradication of adult and newly hatched lice.
