Dear Parents and Guardians,
As the academic year draws to a close it's an appropriate time to reflect on what an awesome year we have had as a community. Please read on to check out the events that have taken us to the end of term, including our outstanding achievement of winning the Young Founders School Bootcamp!
As new Principal I have been utterly astonished by the warmth and genuine care in our community. Nexus is an incredible school and I feel privileged to be at the head of such a creative and hardworking entity. I have been struck by the vibrancy and challenge of the Nexus classroom, the breadth of the extracurricular programme and the impressive results achieved in sporting, artistic and academic arenas. The external assessment data we collect throughout the school shows that our learners are performing above expectations when compared to other international schools and our Year 13 graduates are off to some excellent universities across the world.
In the assemblies this week, when highlights of the year were shared, it was impressive to see just how much we managed to squeeze into a Nexus year. I would like to thank you for all your contributions to the Nexus community. It has been an eventful year full of rich and deep learning, on so many levels, and I'm sure all of your children are ready for a break (as the staff certainly are too!). A particular highlight this week was the Year 6 Moving On Assembly. It was wonderful to be able to share with them their achievements over their time in Primary School and look forward to their journey in Secondary School. Heartfelt thanks to you all for contributing in so many ways to our 'Month of Giving' (ending today with the Primary School PJ Day for the Singapore Epilepsy Care Group). In that time, our community has raised well over $22,000 for a range of local and international charities. Read more about the huge impact the money from last week's Climbathon will have on remote communities in Nepal under 'Recent Events'.
Of course it's also time to farewell some colleagues from across the school and wish them well as they take on new challenges. This year the following amazing colleagues will be moving on: Vicky Booth, Lisa Burrows, Lucy Soliman, Cheryl Isles, Hiromi Ballinger, Margaret Sheahan, Fiona Mak, Meng Jiang, Craig Edwards, Jonette Dale, Angel Wong, Erin Torres, Sammy Coles, Susan Macintosh, Rachel Preece, Chloe Beale, Ryan Teo, Afifah Sukor, Sangeeta Palta, Sonja Bretshneider, Richard Hughes, Yada Mak, Matthew Isles, Amelia Barrow and David Wade.
We also farewell some learners including our IB Diploma graduates. We wish them well on their adventures - please keep in touch!
As of yesterday, we have had confirmation of the 'official' address of our new school: 1 Aljunied Walk. When we return in August we will share more exciting news about the build, which will then be up to level 6!
I look forward to seeing everyone in the new academic year. The first day of term is Monday, 13 August. However, learners in Nursery, Kindergarten and Year 1 follow a staggered start system, so please check your contract carefully for your child's first day back at school. The full academic calendar dates for 2018-19 are available on our website.
Please stay safe whether traveling or staying in Singapore.
Best wishes,
Judy Cooper, Principal
