Primary Nexus Learners in Y5 and above are required to bring an iPad, headphones, Apple Pencil, and Keyboard Case as part of our 1:1 BYOD Programme.
The key items needed to ensure they are able to learn creatively in class are:

Logitech Slim Folio or Apple Keyboard Case - to enable typing and word-processing.
Apple Pencil or other compatible Digital Stylus - for note-taking, annotation, and digital drawing.
Headphones (not AirPods)- to access multimedia learning resources without disturbing other learners (for Year 5/6 learners).
We also strongly recommend purchasing AppleCare+ to provide extra coverage in the event of theft or damage.
Wi-Fi-only devices ensure learners stay connected to the school’s internet protections and monitoring systems.
All devices and accessories should be clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Bringing your own iPad to school is an exciting time for children but can be a daunting task for parents.
In order to set your child up for success, we recommend the following steps:
Before opening the box, create an essential agreement about the iPad. You can use the recommended template from Common Sense Media to discuss key responsibilities of owning an iPad with your child.
Become familiar with the child-safety features that Apple has available for families.
Enrol the iPad in Family Sharing with the 'Ask to Buy' feature turned on.
Download the required apps for Year 5 & 6. Only these approved apps are permitted for use during school hours. Additional non-school apps installed on BYOD devices are to be done so under parental discretion, but will not be permitted for use during school hours.

We understand concerns about screen time and distractions. At Nexus, iPads are used in a balanced and purposeful way, fully integrated into the curriculum to enhance learning.
In Term 4, learners will take part in Digital Skills lessons to prepare them for the BYOD programme. These lessons will cover:
Caring for their devices
Managing notifications
Balancing school and home use
Using key Nexus systems
Teachers also use Apple Classroom during lessons to monitor device use, view screens, open specific apps, and lock devices when necessary. Apple Classroom operates only within the classroom, when devices are connected via Bluetooth to the teacher’s iPad or MacBook.
We recommend:
Purchasing AppleCare+ for accidental damage coverage
Enabling Find My iPad
Using a durable case and stylus pouch
Labelling all devices and accessories clearly
Displaying your child’s name and photo on the lock screen
Ensuring the iPad is enrolled in Apple Family Sharing so that parents can monitor and manage the device, including approving app downloads via Ask to Buy
