A key feature of the Adventurous Journey is that participants must be self sufficient and must therefore bring all that they need with them on the expedition. They cannot therefore purchase additional items or food once they have set off on the Adventurous journey.
All participants must supply and bring bring with them sufficient food and snacks to supply sufficient energy for the Adventurous Journey, which by its nature will be physically demanding. A key feature of the Adventurous Journey is that participants must be self sufficient and must therefore bring all that they need with them on the expedition. As part of the training and preparation, participants discuss their own dietary requirements, allergies etc and plan a high calorific menu together with their groups. All items must be non perishable and packed sufficiently well to withstand being carried in a backpack. It is the responsibility of participants to purchase the ingredients and other food items and to bring them on the day. Others in the group will be relying on them to bring what they say they will bring.
Hydration is key to keeping participants fit and healthy. They are asked to bring bottles to a capacity of 3 litres, which must be filled up each morning. At Bronze Level, accompanying supervisors will help ensure that participants have a supply of clean, safe drinking water. At Gold Level where groups work in more remote areas, each group is supplied with at least one water filtration device. These allow learners to safely drink river or lake water whilst they move from camp to camp. Participants receive full training in the correct use of such devices.
To help ensure that participants are safe and well equipped for the Adventurous Journey, participants must bring in their packed rucksacks three days before we are due to leave for an Adventurous Journey. If there is anything essential missing items, they will be told this during the check and will have a chance to purchase and bring these additional items to school . Food should be brought on the day of departure, which will include ingredients for their meals as well as their snacks.
For safety reasons, participants will not be allowed to take part if they have not brought with them all those items on the equipment list. If this is the case, they will not be entitled to any refund of monies paid to take part in the Adventurous Journey
