A word about all those rehearsals…

New to dance families may find the rehearsal process arduous. We know it may seem ridiculous to sit in the Auditorium on a spring Saturday for half an hour or more, just to have your dancer in stage for five or ten minutes. We get it. It’s tough to keep kids entertained, and sometimes the schedules seem like they were purposely planned on conflict with soccer or t-ball or girl scouts or the other 100 things happening on Saturdays in April.

But the stage is an important part of dance, and performing is usually the highlight of the year for our students. Learning our spacing on stage, learning how to enter and exit the stage, learning where sets and props are, and making sure the show is as seamless as possible all takes time and energy and repetitive practice. These Saturday rehearsals and the week leading up to performance are crucial to making a successful show experience for our students and families. We do our best to have our youngest students finish rehearsals early, and we do our best to run on time or early.

We thank you in advance for your patience, and for keeping a positive attitude to make this recital a positive experience for our students, parents, staff, and audience. If you’re frustrated, please speak to a teacher or Ms. Mary Beth, and don’t vent in front of students. If you see a student not behaving in line with the Auditorium rules or not in keeping with our studio values, please kindly remind them of our expectations for good behavior, and tell Ms. Mary Beth or a teacher so that we can follow up in a respectful and positive manner. Remember that all the parents and students are also sitting waiting for their turn to shine. For dancers, the recital is a positive experience that instills a sense of pride, self-confidence, passion for the performing arts and, in turn, a passion for lifelong learning. For families, recital is an opportunity to celebrate your child’s achievements in dance. Performing in our recital should be a celebration and opportunity to create lifelong memories. Thank you for your help and cooperation in maintaining a respectful, positive rehearsal atmosphere.
