According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the first use of the word "syllabus" referred to something more like what we know as a table of contents. The way we use the word now is much less general, and the OED defines this modern use second: "a statement of the subjects covered by a course of instruction or by an examination, in a school, college, etc.; a programme of study."
So there you have it; simply put, a syllabus is a program of study. This is the page where both CP and H students who are new to class, new to a unit, behind in a unit, coming back after being sick, after an excused absence, after an unexcused absence, or just needing to double-check their handwriting from earlier in the da can, in brief, get with the program.
