Welcome to 12th Grade English!

"The truth is rarely pure and never simple. Modern life would be very tedious if it were either, and modern literature a complete impossibility!"

- Oscar Wilde

Welcome to your final year at New West! Be prepared for a challenging, rigorous, and (dare I say) fun year in English, whether you explore the dry humor of British Literature or the many modern "texts" of our own society. My classes are designed to help you reach INDEPENDENCE IN LEARNING. I will supply you with the tools to read, write, and think effectively, but the ultimate learning is up to you. I am merely your coach. By the end of this year, you will be prepared to read and write college-level texts in English and think more critically about the world.

My Philosophy

My greatest EXPECTATION for you:

To acquire a great level of INDEPENDENCE throughout this course. Your professors will not be there to hold your hand during writing or reading assignments. I will give you the tools, and you will learn to use them for yourself.

My biggest PHILOSOPHY:

I don't do the learning. YOU do the learning. This means you must do the work, you must struggle, and are the only one who can achieve for yourself. If I do the work for you, that means that you are not learning.
