CKLA: Reading, Writing, and More: At New Vision, we use the Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA). As their website states, CKLA is "A comprehensive Preschool–Grade 5 program for teaching skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, Core Knowledge Language Arts™ also builds students’ knowledge and vocabulary in literature, history, geography, and science." Grammar Sayings and Phrases are also embedded in this rich curriculum.
Math: At New Vision Charter School, our goal is for students to master the Colorado Academic Standards and to become life-long lovers of math! In order to do this, we utilize the Eureka Math program. Science: At New Vision, we are following the Colorado Standards for Science. We will be researching, experimenting, having hands-on learning as much as we can in our Core Knowledge/Science units. Science Units this year: Animal Classification, Ecology, the Human Body (muscles, nerves, bones, eyes, and ears), Light and Sound, the Solar System, Weather, and Forces and Motion.
Social Studies: At New Vision, we are following the Colorado Standards for Social Studies. We will be learning geography, history, and perspectives of other cultures through our Core Knowledge/ Social Studies Units. Social Studies Units this year: Ancient Rome, Vikings, Early Civilizations/Native Americans, The Age of Exploration, and Colonial America.
Behavior Expectations:
House Points - This year we are so excited to join the house system as a whole campus! All 3rd graders are in the Fiable House. Students will be sorted next year as 4th graders to determine their house for the rest of their time at NVCS. We will be teaching students the characteristics of each house during the first few weeks of school. We will begin rewarding points in September.
