Students in English 9 read classic and contemporary poetry, short stories, drama, and novels. Students learn strategies to identify, locate and interpret information. As they transition to a new school, they have many opportunities to relate and apply new knowledge using a variety of resources, including technology, as they develop an understanding of the power of choice in our human condition, and as a reader and writer. Students are encouraged to take and support a position on information and ideas in journal entries and class discussions. They gain versatility in conveying information and ideas in a variety of written formats. Students are exposed to the reading and writing experiences that will prepare them for the SAT administered in 11th grade.
