Newton Public Schools administers universal screeners and diagnostic assessments to determine the severity of academic difficulty or social-emotional learning inadequacy and the level of needed support. When students enter Tier 2 or Tier 3, progress is typically monitored throughout an 8-10 week period for lower grades and a 6-8 week period for the high school, with the frequency determined by the individual student’s needs as outlined in the action plan. There may be augmented support and intervention based on the individual student’s performance congruent with data reviewed during frequent progress monitoring intervals.
