The Middle Colonies had much to offer. The Middle Colonies enjoyed a longer growing season that the New England Colonies. Their climate was not too hot or too cold, but fairly moderate (right in the middle). They were also blessed with rich soil that allowed them to prosper from specific cash crops.
The excellent harbors of the Middle Colonies were ideal for cities, such as New York.

In fact, the Middle Colonies produced so much grain that people began calling them the "breadbasket."
Farmers also raised hogs and dairy cattle that was shipped to large cities, such as New York and Philadelphia.
