Phonemic and Phonological Awareness
Phonological awareness skills are skills that are the underpinnings of reading. Students learn to listen to sounds in words so that they can manipulate them.
In Kindergarten, First, and Second grade, children enjoy a daily phonics lesson from The University of Florida Literacy Institute (also known as UFLI). It is an explicit and systematic phonics program that consists of a K-2 scope and sequence. The program is both research-based and evidence based.
