Art Display (All Day): Visual art is one of the ways that people express their thoughts and emotions on their place in the world. Our website will feature a visual art display by LGBTQ+ student artists and depict queer life and other adjacent topics. A small display is also planned on a main hallway of the school so that students can view it during passing times.
Gender Presentation and Identity Panel (E 9:15 - 9:50): What is gender presentation? Is it the same as gender identity? Many people don't know the difference between gender identity and gender presentation. But both are key to a person's queer expression. Through a brief presentation and a panel, we will discuss what gender presentation and identity mean and how the two can be linked or separate.
LGBTQ+ Families Panel (E 10:00 - 10:35): Families with parents or children of varying sexual and gender identities face challenges in school, accessing resources, and engaging in community opportunities in a world that often assumes heterosexuality and binary genders are the norm. Hear from LGBTQ+ parents and children about their experiences during this panel discussion.
Questioning Questions (F 10:45 - 11:20): Questioning is an essential part of finding one’s identity, especially for queer people. You may never have thought about it! Got questioning questions? This presentation hopes to be a crash course on any questions you may have on gender, sexuality, and questioning your identity!
Allyship (F 11:30 - 12:05): Allyship is an important topic for the LGBTQ+ community. While we have made some progress in societal perceptions and legal rights, the support of those outside of the community by speaking out for us and fighting for our rights alongside us continues to be necessary. Learn about what it means to be an ally and some simple do’s and don’ts through this presentation.
Queer Representation in Media (G 1:05 - 1:40): There is a staggering lack of LGBTQ+ representation in the media. Not to mention the quality of the little representation there is. But what constitutes good and bad representation? How can some representation be harmful? Does it matter if the creators themselves are a part of the LGBTQ+ community? Should LGBTQ+ roles be played by LGBTQ+ actors? Come to this presentation to learn some opinions on these questions and more about LGBTQ+ representation.
Speakout (G 1:50 - 2:25): Come to Speakout to experience a plethora of artistic performances about LGBTQ+ students’ experiences, thoughts of love and acceptance, and struggles against the bigotry we still fight every day. Featuring recorded performances and original content by our very own students.
