Taking the Advanced Placement (AP) exam is an important part of all AP courses. Newton North High School expects that all students enrolled in an AP course will register for and take the AP exam. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit.
There are TWO steps to the AP exam registration process. Both steps must be completed for an exam to be ordered.
STUDENTS CAN NOT USE THEIR NPS OR PARENT EMAIL ADDRESS FOR EXAM REGISTRATION.
Step 1 - Register for an exam on the College Board MyAP site.
Students enrolled in an AP Course at Newton North will be given a unique join code by their AP teacher. By entering the join code on the College Board site students are automatically enrolled for the exam and granted AP Classroom access.
Step 2 - Pay for the AP exam on the Total Registration Website. (If students already have a TR account, they should look for the “Do you have an existing Total Registration account? Login Here” link at the bottom of the page.)
The cost per AP exam is $115.
Families who qualify for financial assistance will be granted a partial fee waiver. Please follow all the NPS waiver application instructions, this must be completed each year. If you are approved for a fee waiver, you still need to complete Step 2.
The PREFERRED DEADLINE to complete BOTH STEPS is November 15, 2024.
Registration does remain open until March 14, 2025, however there is a $40 late fee after November 15th.
If you register for an exam, but choose not to take it, a full refund will only be granted until November 15th. After November 15th, a $75 refund will be granted, $40 is withheld from the refund to pay the College Board canceled/unused exam fee. Exam Cancellation Instructions.
If testing accommodations are needed and you haven’t previously applied then please follow the directions outlined in College Board/ACT Testing Accommodations letter. Those that have already applied and been approved do not need to apply again unless changes to accommodations are needed. If accommodations are pending or you do not know the information, do not wait to complete Step 2 Total Registration, this information is not required for exam payment.
If you are self-studying for an exam which Newton North is giving (see list above), you may request a join code for that exam by emailing me. We only run the exams for the courses we offer. To find schools offering additional exams, check the AP Course Ledger, then contact the school directly for registration information. (Newton South is offering Environmental Science, Microeconomics, and Physics C: E & M. Their coordinator is Tonya Londino londinot@newton.k12.ma.us) Please consult the full AP Exam Schedule before committing to self studying for an exam, many exams overlap, you will not be able to take exams late due to exam schedule conflicts. If you find a morning / afternoon conflict, some schools may be able to accommodate you taking both exams at one location to avoid commuting conflicts.
A few notes about your CollegeBoard and Total Registration accounts:
Please make sure you do not use your NPS issued email for either account, this will cause issues.
If you have a CollegeBoard account already and you used your NPS email address you will need to call the CollegeBoard to change your email address.
If you have a Total Registration account already and you used your NPS email address you will need to email Ms. Amanda Mazzola (mazzolaa@newton.k12.ma.us) to change your email address.
Please make sure the email address is your personal email address and not a parent/guardian's email address. You should be receiving communication directly from the CollegeBoard.
