We have posted these free resources as they may help you and your family create learning opportunities at home. These are not resources associated with the 5th grade curriculum of Newton Public Schools.

Scholastic Learn at Home

To support you, Scholastic has created the Scholastic Learn at Home website. This free resource provides all students with 20 days’ worth of exciting learning journeys that span the content areas created by their editors to keep our students actively engaged in learning while school is closed. Our students will have access to approximately three hours of meaningful learning opportunities per day, including projects based on exciting articles and stories, virtual field trips, reading and geography challenges, and so much more.

Brain Pop

BrainPop offers videos on a variety of content. We use this often in the classroom as the videos are fun while also providing clear and concise instruction. We left off in science covering the Water Cycle so anything related to the follow topics will be great science review for students:

  • Water/ Water Cycle
  • Matter Changing States
  • Temperature
  • Energy (For Review from our Electricity Unit)

Prodigy

Prodigy is a free online math game. Students can create characters and enter a world to practice their math skills. Access prodigy with this link: https://play.prodigygame.com/

How to Access

-Students can login with their Newton ID which is their LASSID Number and Password. It is also easy to create a separate account for free. Some students have accounts already and know their login information.

Smithsonian Learning Lab

The Smithsonian Learning Lab has a large selection of content related to science and social studies. It is free to join and you can create a free account to track your progress.

Newsela has a wide range of current event articles for students to read. By joining our class, our students will have access to assigned articles and articles at the 5th grade level. Please join our 5CM class on Newsela. Use the link below to join our class:
