One of the main parts in a cassette is where the information is stored. This is where polyester comes in. Information is stored on a narrow ribbon of plastic tape (polyester) with one side coated with a magnetic material. An electromagnet aligns individual magnetic particles in a pattern which translates to the volume and pitch of the sounds. The way the cassette then gives back the recorded information is by the magnetic tape (polyester) moving past a coil that generates an electrical output signal. Polyester is an essential part in a cassettes; it not only helps store the information in the cassette, but it also then plays it back for people to listen.
