Sentence Starters for Language Functions for ELLs:
Click on a language function in blue in the column on the left, such as Cause/Effect, Compare/Contrast, Describe, Inquire, or Predict to access a list of sentence starters. Under the "Discourse", "Sentence" , and "Word /Phrase" columns to the left you will see recommendations about the language, grammar, and type of vocabulary students need to know and use to accomplish this language function. The Sentence Frame Examples start at the top with more complex structures, and progress to simpler structures at the end of the list.
*NOTE: Most of the sentence starter lists are two to three pages long.
