Rachel Candee is a K-5 General/Instrumental Music Teacher for the Newton Public Schools in Newton, MA. Prior to teaching in Newton, she taught General Music K-8 in Malden, MA for 2 years; General Music K-5 in Chelsea, MA as a long-term sub; and Instrumental Music 6-8 in Salem, MA as a long-term sub.
She is a graduate of Boston University, where she received her Masters in Trumpet Performance, playing in large ensembles, trumpet ensembles, brass quintets, and giving 2 solo recitals. While at BU, she studied with the critically-acclaimed trumpet players, Terry Everson and Tom Siders. The BU Trumpet Ensemble, of which she was a part of, advanced to the semi-finals in the National Trumpet Competition two years in a row. In addition, she also performed with the New England Brass Band, the MIT Symphony Orchestra, the Longwood Symphony Orchestra, and many orchestras in the Boston area.
Originally from New Jersey, she attended Montclair State University, where she received her Bachelors in Music Education. There, she completed her student teaching in elementary, middle, and high school levels in Parsippany, NJ.
Rachel has also recently become active in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, where she published an article in the MMEJ entitled "Collaborations: Project-Based Learning in the Music Classroom." On March 5th, 2020, she presented a session at the MMEA Conference in Boston on "Project Based Learning: Hip-Hop Creation in the Music Classroom."
Rachel Candee is an enthusiastic young educator who seeks to inspire her students in the love of music. In her free time, she enjoys playing instruments, going hiking, running, yoga, salsa dancing, watching soccer, and traveling abroad. She is also fluent in Spanish and loves to be able to speak with native speakers when she gets the opportunity.
