Bigelow Instrumental Music

At Bigelow Middle School, we support students in becoming life-long music makers. Playing and listening to music is a benefit to the individual and the society. We encourage students to enjoy music in as many ways as possible and encourage them to support each other in music making.

We offer 6th Grade Band, 7/8th Grade Band, Orchestra and Jazz Band. Jazz Band is held before school on Days 3 and 6. Sign up for 2025-26 Jazz Band here. 

The 7/8 Band and Orchestra have an annual tradition of playing at the Six Flags Music Festival!

Director of Instrumental Music, Ed Harlow 

Mr. Harlow has conducted student groups that have won numerous awards and who have performed internationally.

Mr. Harlow is also a saxophonist, composer and has toured the US, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil, France and the Caribbean.

Mr. Harlow has performed with notable artists such as Tony Bennett, Danilo Perez, Tito Puente, Jr., The Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Artie Shaw Orchestra, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Temptations, Johnny Mathis and Paquito D'Rivera. 

Mr. Harlow has fifteen publications with Advance Music and has released three CDs as a leader. Since 2014 he has participated as a clinician and performer at the Panama Jazz Festival. Ed Harlow is the founder of the Soular Jazz Foundation, which uses music to help accelerate the transition to clean, renewable energy.
