During the Fall and Spring semester, all ESL+ Music students are required to register for at least one course of Private Lessons (CAML 0500 ESLM Seven Lessons) in addition to the 4 ESL classes.
For how to register, see the Registration Instructions
Students may choose to register for an optional, additional 7 private lessons (for a total of 14 lessons per semester) for an additional fee (CAML 0700 ESLM 7 Additional Lesson Fee Section)
Send your preferred instructors to copalessons@newschool.edu
After you have registered and paid for private lessons, you must send a list of 5 preferred instructors, ranked in the order of your preference, to copalessons@newschool.edu.
A Mannes staff will pair you with one of the instructors and notify you before the semester starts.
Please respond to any follow-up emails from Mannes or your paired private lesson instructor promptly.
Any other questions you have about private lessons should be directed to copalessons@newschool.edu

Here's a video tutorial on how to use Asimut to reserve rooms.
Each student has a rolling quota of 6 hours, which means they can reserve up to 6 hours at a time. Once an hour is used, it is immediately replenished, allowing the student to use it again.
During peak hours (11am to 4pm, Monday through Friday), students can book up to 2 hours.
There is an open booking horizon of 3 hours. This means you may book available rooms up to 3 hours in the future regardless of how many hours in the rolling quota you have remaining.
Reservations for practice rooms can be made 5 days in advance.
Classroom and private lesson rooms can be booked up to 2 days in advance.
If your plans change, please show consideration to others and cancel your booking.
Bookings canceled before the start time will have the hours reimbursed to the quota immediately. If they are not canceled before the start time, they will be treated as unconfirmed, and your quota will not be reimbursed until the booking time has elapsed.
In classrooms: Students are required to leave a classroom in its default classroom configuration, straightening out the seats as necessary (see the image posted on the wall of each classroom). You should begin straightening up the room and packing away your items 10 minutes before the end of the reservation and exit at least 5 minutes before the next reservation. This will allow the next class to begin on time.
If you are more than 10 minutes late to your reservation, the room is considered “open,” and anyone may use the room. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late to your reservation and someone else uses the room, you may not kick them out. If you are late to a 2-hour reservation, you forfeit the first hour and may return at the top of the second hour to claim the room. Faculty reservations are not subject to late rules. If a faculty member is late to a lesson/class/coaching, they may still claim the room. However, faculty may not claim a room without a reservation.
You may not reserve an empty room by placing your personal items in it. For example, pianists may not reserve a room by leaving their music on the piano.
We recommend you do not leave valuables unattended in a practice room. Lost and Found is at the security desk as you enter the building.
The only authorized teaching on campus is by faculty for registered students. Students are not allowed to use their practice time to teach privately.
No smoking or vaping.
Do not place food or beverages on the pianos, amps, drums, or audio cabinets, and do not leave trash in or on the pianos.
Windows must remain closed at all times.
Do not obstruct the windows of classrooms or practice rooms. For example, do not cover the door window.
There are always a handful of students who aren’t imported into the booking system for various reasons, i.e., registered late, started in the spring, had a hold, etc. These students need to email coparooms@newschool.edu with their degree program, year in school, and instrument (if applicable) to be given booking access manually.
Students should make daily reservations via asimut.newschool.edu; however, we realize that sometimes there are special requests/issues. Please contact coparooms@newschool.edu if you need help.
If ESL+ Music students' conditional acceptance offer contains scholarship awards, ESL+ Music students will receive their Mannes/Jazz scholarship award upon completion of the ESL+ Music program. The scholarship award is for the cost of their formal degree program.
All concerts are open and free to New School students. ESL+ Music students should be subscribed to the CoPA Bulletin for alerts on upcoming concerts and events.
