EXPECTATIONS / GUIDELINES:
· Students are expected to be ON TIME for class! Tardiness to class will result in a 2 point deduction. Students must be in the gym before the bell rings.
· No chewing gum / food / candy allowed in gymnasium.
· Follow all safety rules. We will not tolerate anything that jeopardizes the safety of you or others.
· Students will place all belongings (including school computers and cell phones) in the locker room. Exceptions will occur when computers or cell phones are needed for class.
DRESS REQUIREMENTS:
Changing for P.E. is optional. No P.E. uniform is required.
Guidelines for Proper Attire
Sweat pants, athletic shorts (elastic waist running shorts, work out shorts and basketball shorts), joggers/track pants, warm-ups pants, yoga pants, and leggings are highly recommended bottoms for physical education. T-shirts and sweatshirts are highly recommended tops for physical education. When in doubt: wear a T-shirt and ATHLETIC shorts during the warmer months, a T-shirt or sweat shirt and sweat pants or warm-up pants during the colder months.
Not recommended: Jeans, skirts, dresses, dress shorts (e.g.: cargo shorts, khakis)
If a student is not wearing proper attire for P.E., there are loaner t-shirts, sweatpants and shorts that the P.E. teachers will make available to wear for that day.
· No jewelry is to be worn during class, including body piercing.
· Proper athletic footwear is required to participate in class. Sneakers with TIED (Velcro) laces are required. Open-toed shoes, sandals, flip-flops, crocs, Hey Dudes, boots, or other footwear that is not of training/athletic status will not be allowed! Spare shoes are available for both males and females. If a student is unable to participate in the daily lesson due to their footwear, this will result in a 5 point deduction for the day.
Medical Excuses:
· To be excused from P.E. for a health/medical reason requires a written doctor’s excuse, which should include activities, which the student is permitted to participate in, and a date, which the student may return.
· Parental excuses will not be accepted from students to exempt them from P.E. class. Students will be expected to wear sneakers and participate, with activity modifications to be given if needed.
#1 - Responsibility – Worth 5 points
5 Pts = Student has proper athletic workout attire and footwear and is able to participate in the daily lesson.
0 Pts = Student cannot participate in daily lesson due to non-athletic footwear/ inappropriate attire or refuses to participate in daily activity.
#2 - Participation – Worth 5 points
5 points = Student participated in all activities with appropriate behavior.
1-4 Points = Student may earn from 1-4 points based on participation and behavior: points deducted for swearing, horseplay, disrespect, tardy to class, and little, if any participation, including the warm-up.
0 Points = Removal from class activities
~ Point Deduction is at the discretion of the teacher.
Warm-Up Breakdown - The warm-up is a part of your participation grade. Deductions will be made anywhere from 2 - 4 points based off of the effort displayed during this portion of the class period. Please make sure you are exhibiting good effort, as this portion of our class is focusing on the health related fitness components.
#3 - Pedometer Data
Pedometer Data – A chart will be provided for each quarter regarding if the steps, activity time or MVPA data will be used to grade, along with the criteria and point totals. Pedometer Data will be worth an additional 5 points per class when assessed.
An example of how you will be graded quarterly with your pedometer data:
Our quarterly goal is that all students are able to achieve 2000 steps 75% or more of the classes held in the quarter. Below, you will find the grading scale for the 4th Quarter Pedometer Data:
50/50 = 75% or higher
45/50 = 65% - 74%
40/50 = 55% - 64%
35/50 = 45% - 54%
30/50 = 35% - 44%
25/50 = 35% & Lower
Make sure you are moving during all classes to ensure you are achieving 2000 steps daily.
IF ANY STUDENT IS CAUGHT SHAKING THEIR PEDOMETER, THEIR DATA WILL BE RESET TO 0 AT THE TIME THEY ARE CAUGHT DURING THAT CLASS PERIOD!!
Explanation of Pedometer Data:
o Steps are the number of steps you have taken.
o Activity time accounts for the total amount of time you have been active.
o MVPA is an acronym for Moderate to Vigorous Physical Activity. It is considered to be any activity that is at the intensity of a brisk walk or more. This is an important intensity to know because doing activities that are in the MVPA zone are those that provide the most health benefits to help us to stay
6th grade students can be absent two classes in a quarter prior to having to make up a missed P.E. class. Students must make up P.E. classes that they are absent in after their second absence in a quarter. Failure to make up a missed P.E. class (after the second absence) will result in a zero for the day you were absent. You must make up classes by the end of the quarter using the Absent from P.E. Class Choice Board found on the google classroom, Make-Up P.E. class form during a study hall or Flex/Advisory period, or a Sport's Make-Up (only 2 per quarter can be used).
