Few people can claim to have been born at a gold mine, and fewer still have spent their entire lives in the same gold mining town. Alice Barnes was one such person. In iconic Julian, California, Alice was the first person to sell apple pies commercially, and with her husband ran the longest continually operating orchard in San Diego County. Manzanita Ranch is still operated by her family today. This is Alice's story told in her own words.
