Students will practice proper letter formation daily. We will stress the importance of using print lines ("sky"/top, "fence"/mid-line and "grass" /bottom). We will emphasize that most letters start at the top line. Students will learn that neat handwriting makes our writing easy to read.
Students will be introduced to new letter sounds each week. There will be no formal spelling words in kindergarten. However, students are encouraged to write using sound spelling.
Students will study: Drawing and Labeling, Informational Writing, Opinion Writing, and Personal Narrative throughout the year. We use a writer's workshop format where we share ideas and write daily.
