Students are exposed to various forms of reading during the Kindergarten ELA block. Both whole group and small group (guided reading) instruction will occur daily. During literacy centers students have the chance to independently practice their reading skills with their peers. Please refer to the Reading section of our monthly newsletter to keep up to date on specific areas of study each month!

Students in Kindergarten will be sent home with sight word cards each month (students may refer to them as "snap words" as we are learning to read them in a "snap.") Sight words are those which students should be able to read and write accurately and efficiently. Please cut out these words, practice them daily, and store them in a safe place. We will be assessing your child's knowledge of these words at least quarterly in our classrooms. As the year goes on, you will see your child's sight word bank grow significantly. Thank you for your continued support at home in saving and practicing these words with your children!
