For SDL this term, we have to do a project around (at least) one of the sustainable development. We took inspiration from another project that we (Annabelle and Brianna) are currently involved in - a chip packet blanket project. That project involves chip packets NOT going to landfill, and using them for a better cause. Then we had the idea of beeswax wraps. Similar to the chip packets, this project involves replacing one-use plastics (in this case glad wrap) with beeswax wraps, reducing the amount of rubbish filling the landfill. This tackles the sustainable development goal 12, which is the responsible consumption and production goal. By NOT buying one-use plastics like glad wrap (responsibly consuming), there will be less waste going to landfills, therefore sustaining our earth.
We surveyed most of our class about how much they already know about beeswax wraps, if they already use them or not, if they would use beeswax wraps if given them, and how much they actually use glad wrap. This survey helped us find out how much impact this project would have. We decided that after making the beeswax wraps, we would sell them in our school so whoever wants to use them can, so our project would actually have an impact.
We have made this website to present our work.
