He fought hard to ensure staff rights were not violated and gained the respect of all those he worked with as well as the staff he represented at hearings. His hard work and perseverance did not go unnoticed. He was promoted to the position below.
· DC 37 (Council Representative)
Represented PAA’s at 1 Police Plaza in disciplinary and grievance hearings.
Representing the PAA’s was especially challenging because the disciplinary hearings were with the employee and the police officers. However, he fought just as hard for the PAA’s at the hearings and was not intimidated by the police officers and soon gained their respect as well.
Community Involvement
· John Edward Bruce Day Care
President Parent Teacher Association
This was the beginning of Stanley’s involvement in education and the community when his daughter began attending the daycare.
· P.S. 241
President, Parent/Teacher Association
When his daughter started first grade in P.S. 241 he followed her there and became involved with the PTA. He worked closely with the then principal, Mr. Becker. When
his daughter graduated from P.S. 241 and went on to IS 320 Stanley was moving on to do more work in the community. He felt the need to reach out to the district where he could do more and on a larger scale. It was then that he decided to run for the Community School Board District 17.
District 17 Community School Board
Stanley had the endorsement of the Unions, Local 1549 and DC 37 supporting him in his campaign. Stanley wanted to be a member of the Community School Board because he
knew he could make a difference. He fought hard for the children in the district. He believed children were our future and everything possible had to be done for them. He fought to make sure the funding received for the District was allocated properly, held teachers accountable and was always accessible to parents and teachers.
As a school board member for District 17, he was instrumental in appointing Mable Robinson as principal of PS 399. He believed in her and knew she was the best choice for the school. Now that he had accomplished his goal for school board member he looked at the bigger picture, State Assemblyman.
State Assemblyman
His decision to run for State Assembly was of course to be able to do more for so many. He also had the support of the unions to run his campaign. He didn’t win the election, but he ran a great campaign and had the support of so many people.
