Mr. Soward is an accomplished writer, director, actor, and educator with more than two decades in the classroom.
Before coming to New Caney ISD, he spent the spent ten years building the Off-Broadway Theatre at Shadow Creek High School into one of the most consistently successful theatre programs in the state. He has been to Region in UIL One-Act Play competition more than a dozen times and to State twice. His musical productions have been nominated for dozens of Tommy Tune Awards, and his students have consistantly earned gold medals at the annual national festival of the International Thespian Society.
Former students his have gone on to graduate from some of the most prestigious university theatre programs in the world—including New York University, Pace, University, the University of Southern California, Duke University, The University of California—Los Angeles, Texas State University, Sam Houston State University, and the University of Texas—Austin. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers in professional theatre and film—including current members of the companies at the Alley Theatre, S.T.A.G.E.S., and Theatre Under the Stars.
He currently lives in Porter with his wife, Stacy Weill (PHS's Director of Orchestra), and daughter, Zoe. They have one cat, Garfield, and two dogs, Astro (an Italian Greyhound) and Ting (a Labrador).
