The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Program at Mid-Carolina High School is an elective course offering leadership education and physical training to high school students through four academic years, 9th through 12th grade. The JROTC program prepares high school cadets for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities and privileges of American citizenship. The program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities which will benefit the cadet, the community and the nation. Although the JROTC program is sponsored by the United States Army, students are not "in the army" and incur no obligation with any branch of service. The JROTC program is one of the Army's contributions to assisting America's youth in becoming better citizens. The program produces successful students and productive adults, while fostering in each school a constructive and disciplined learning environment. The program makes substantial contributions to many communities and ultimately to the nation's future. It is the centerpiece of the Department of Defense's commitment to America's Promise for Youth through its emphasis on community service and teen anti-drug efforts.
The mission of the Army JROTC program is to "Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens." To accomplish this mission, the program of instruction provides education in citizenship, leadership, life success, geography and wellness to help cadets succeed in high school and post graduation.
The JROTC course curriculum is diverse with a broad range of classroom and co-curricula activities. It is progressive in nature with increasing intensity as cadets move from one Leadership, Education and Training (LET) level to another. Satisfactory completion of the program can lead to advanced placement credit in the Senior ROTC program or advanced rank in the Armed Forces.
This course examines the use of American military forces around the world. We will analyze regions in which military interventions took place to understand the regions history, geography, religions, languages, cultures, political systems, economics, social issues, environmental concerns and human rights. We will also study major events and influential figures which played key roles in these conflicts.
