This semester long course is designed to provide young artists with an introduction and exploration of the elements of art and principles of design. Students will utilize a wide range of media and artistic techniques throughout Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media, and Sculpture Units. Students will work toward intermediate and advanced range proficiency benchmarks and indicators within the four artistic processes outlined by the South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Standards for Visual Arts.
H. Art 1 Required Materials DUE: Monday August 18
Students are expected to provide the materials listed below. Fees for this course cover materials like drawing pencils, erasers, fixative, paper, canvas, glue, paint brushes, art show display materials, etc. Any of these materials that need to be replaced or any damages incurred to students’ (in-class) storage/work space will be an additional cost to the student.

Pencils- wooden, #2
Wire-bound sketchbook, 9”x12”
12-inch ruler
Hand held pencil sharpener
Acrylic paint, 2 oz. bottles/tubes or larger (red, yellow, blue, black and white)
Clean trash/recyclable items. More information/deadlines will be given in the second 9 weeks, but start collecting (NOW!).
Optional:
Multi-color markers (10-12 pack) or color pencils (12 pack)
*23” x 26” Drawing Board (Or a very smooth, lightweight wooden board that can accommodate an 18”x24” paper)
*Paint palette (white/clear plastic plate, large plastic lid or a store-bought palette). A roll of aluminum foil or wax paper can serve as a disposable palette option.
Additional supplies may need to be purchased if student supply runs out or if they lose or damage their materials.

If there are circumstances preventing your child from obtaining materials by this deadline, please contact Mrs. Makoski directly and as soon as possible.
Drawing boards serve the following purpose: the safe transport and storage of student work to and from home/school as well as a mobile drawing surface. Student work is graded on craftsmanship and presentation, therefore all work must be handled with great care, particularly during transport and storage. Students will also need this item in the future if they choose to participate in advanced art classes (Art 2-4).
