Welcome to second grade! I am so excited to share this journey with you and your child! We have so much to learn in second grade! My name is Maria Howe and I am beginning my 24th year in education. I began my first year teaching at Speers Street and Boundary Street Elementary Schools before teaching at Mid-Carolina Middle School for two years. I transferred to Prosperity-Rikard 22 years ago and have been teaching here since then in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.
I am from Prosperity and I was a graduate of Mid-Carolina High School before earning my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education from Newberry College in 1997. I then earned my Master of Elementary Education Degree from Southern Wesleyan University in 2005.
I have three children, Austin (27), Ashlyn (20), and Brittany (26), as well as a son-in-law named Zack. I also have two fur babies named Bella and Piper who keep me company and provide me with lots of stories to tell.
When I am not at school, I enjoy traveling, working as an EMT at Lake Murray Rescue, watching Clemson Tiger football, eating chocolate, and baking goodies for family and friends. Being surrounded by family and friends is my most favorite thing!
I look forward to working with you and your child at PRES! If you need to reach me at any time, please email me at mhowe@sdnc.org or call me at school at 803-364-2321 or 803-364-2678. Have a great day!
